Area Measurement

Area Measurement creates a closed region from multiple vertices and calculates its area and perimeter.

Steps

  1. Select Area on Home.
  2. Add vertices around the boundary using the crosshair or current location.
  3. After at least three points, the app displays area and closed perimeter.
  4. Tap the perimeter section to expand individual edge lengths.
  5. Tap a map point to edit or remove that vertex.
  6. Tap save in the upper-right corner and enter a name.

The region closes in point order, connecting the last point back to the first. Add vertices consistently around the boundary and avoid crossing edges, because self-intersecting polygons can produce results that are difficult to interpret.

Units and algorithm

Area can be shown in square meters/square kilometers or square feet/acres. Perimeter follows the distance unit. Distance and area share the Local Planar and Ellipsoidal algorithm preference.

Improve accuracy

  • For field sampling, wait for stable accuracy and sample each boundary turn.
  • For remote map selection, zoom in and align the crosshair with the boundary.
  • For geographically large regions, prefer the ellipsoidal method.
  • Results are estimates and are not land, property, or engineering survey conclusions.

Location and sensor readings are for reference only. Always assess your surroundings.
