Track Recording
Track Recording continuously samples your location and calculates the route, total distance, current/average/maximum speed, minimum/maximum altitude, and elapsed time. You can also add track annotations with notes and media.
Start recording
- Select Record on Home.
- Tap Start Recording.
- When prompted, grant Always location access so sampling can continue while the screen is locked or the app is in the background.
- Monitor the route, speed, distance, and duration while moving.
- Tap Pause Recording to stop sampling temporarily, then Resume Recording when ready.
- Tap Annotate to create an annotation at your current location and add a name, note, photo, or video.
- Tap save in the upper-right corner and enter a track name.
Track details and charts
Tap “Show Track Details” in the summary card to view average and maximum speed, minimum and maximum altitude, and trend charts. When you select speed or altitude, the chart and map route use the same color scale.
Background recording
Continuous background location displays the iOS location indicator and uses additional battery. Recording may stop or slow when:
- Always location access is not granted.
- You force-quit the app from the app switcher.
- Low-power or device-management policies intervene, or storage is insufficient.
- The device remains without a GPS signal for a long period.
Pausing stops background location for the current session. If you leave with unsaved content, the app offers to save, discard, or continue editing. A recent draft may be restored after an unexpected exit.
Safety
Before departure, check battery, accuracy, and permissions. Do not stare at or operate the screen while hiking, cycling, or driving. This feature does not provide turn-by-turn directions or emergency rescue positioning.
