Compass

The Compass uses the device magnetometer to show heading, magnetic north, and heading accuracy. It provides light haptic feedback when crossing major angle intervals.

Steps

  1. Select Compass on Home.
  2. Hold the iPhone as level as practical and move away from magnetic objects.
  3. Read the central degree and direction. The fixed indicator at the top represents the device’s facing direction.
  4. Review magnetic heading and accuracy at the bottom.

If iOS asks for calibration, move the device as instructed. MagSafe accessories, magnetic mounts, speakers, motors, vehicle metal, and high-voltage equipment can affect readings.

WARNING

The compass is for general orientation only and is not a substitute for professional aviation, marine, surveying, or wilderness-rescue equipment.

Location and sensor readings are for reference only. Always assess your surroundings.
