Altimeter

The Altimeter displays altitude and vertical accuracy from iOS location services. It can save multiple altitude samples and summarize the minimum and maximum altitude.

Steps

  1. Select Altitude on Home.
  2. Wait for a current location and altitude value.
  3. Tap Mark Current to save a sample.
  4. Move to another location and continue sampling. The minimum and maximum values update automatically.
  5. Tap a sample to view its location, altitude, vertical accuracy, note, and attachments.
  6. Tap save in the upper-right corner and enter a name.

Reading the values

  • Current Altitude: The latest valid altitude supplied by iOS.
  • Minimum / Maximum Altitude: Extremes across valid samples in the current record.
  • Vertical Accuracy: The system’s estimated altitude uncertainty; a smaller value is generally better.

GPS altitude can differ from map elevation, barometric altitude, or a local vertical datum. Error may increase indoors, in canyons, beside tall buildings, or under poor satellite reception.

Location and sensor readings are for reference only. Always assess your surroundings.
