Language
The app supports Simplified Chinese and English. The interface follows the selected app preference. The language of system permission alerts also depends on iOS and the app’s localized configuration.
Coordinate system
- WGS84: Raw GPS coordinates and the common standard for international geospatial data.
- GCJ-02: Commonly used by internet maps in mainland China.
- BD-09: The Baidu Maps coordinate system.
This setting changes display and copy results. It does not overwrite stored WGS84 source coordinates. When exchanging data, confirm the file format and the recipient’s expected system.
Units
- Distance: Metric (m, km), Imperial (ft, mi), or Aviation/Marine (nmi).
- Area: Metric (m², km²) or Imperial (ft², acre).
- Speed: Metric (km/h, m/s), Imperial (mph), or Aviation/Marine (knot).
Preferences apply automatically to relevant screens and summaries. Underlying values remain in consistent base units, so changing the display unit does not modify the original measurement.
Distance and area calculation
- Local Planar Approximation: Uses the system distance implementation and a local planar area approximation. Best for everyday, small-area use.
- Ellipsoidal Calculation: Uses a WGS84 ellipsoidal model and is better suited to large areas or stricter calculation requirements.
The setting affects both distance and area. Opening a record after switching algorithms recalculates its displayed summary with the new method.
Data and sync
“Current Storage Mode” shows the backend actually active for this launch. iCloud sync is off by default.
- Open More → Data & Sync.
- Change iCloud Sync.
- Close and reopen the app when prompted so the data container can be recreated using the new configuration.
If the Apple Account, iCloud Drive, CloudKit entitlement, or network is unavailable, the app falls back to the local database and shows a notice. The switch is your preference; “Current Storage Mode” reports the state actually in use.
Sync is not a backup
Sync can propagate edits and deletions to devices using the same private iCloud container. Export important data as a GPS Toolbox package and keep a separate copy.
