GPS Toolbox Terms of Use
Effective date: August 18, 2026
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Welcome to GPS Toolbox (the “App” or “Service”). These Terms are an agreement between you and the GPS Toolbox developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) and apply to the App, its help website, and the live location-sharing service operated by us.
Please read these Terms in full, particularly provisions highlighted as Important, Warning, or similar notices concerning limitations of liability, data processing, and dispute resolution. By using the Service, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms. If you do not agree, stop using and uninstall the App.
1. The Service
The App provides current-location display, point marking, distance and area estimates, altitude and speed sampling, track recording and following, temporary live location sharing, compass, level, magnetic-field detection, watermark camera, map, and geospatial-data import and export tools. Available features are determined by the version currently installed on your device.
Some features may be experimental, placeholders, or released progressively. We describe known limitations in the interface or documentation and do not promise that every planned feature will always be available.
2. Eligibility and requirements
You must have the legal capacity required for your use. A minor should use the Service only under the guidance of a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed and accepted these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Minors should not independently use live location sharing.
You are responsible for a compatible device, iOS version, network connection, Apple Account, and other necessary conditions, including device, communication, and data charges.
3. Location, measurement, and sensor results
Location, tracks, distance, area, altitude, speed, direction, level status, and magnetic-field results come from device sensors, system frameworks, map data, and algorithms. Results may be affected by the device model, permissions, obstructions, weather, environmental interference, map accuracy, coordinate system, and system policies.
These results are for everyday reference only. They are not surveying, engineering, property-boundary, aviation, marine, medical, electromagnetic-safety, law-enforcement, rescue, or other professional conclusions and do not replace certified instruments, maps, navigation, or emergency services. Use an appropriate professional method before making a decision with significant safety, property, or legal consequences.
4. Live location sharing
When you create or join a group and enable sharing, the App sends your nickname and location data to the location-sharing server and displays it to members of the same group. You must:
- Share the group ID and password only with trusted people.
- Never impersonate another person or track, monitor, or disclose someone’s location without authorization.
- Turn sharing off or leave the group when it is no longer needed.
- Understand that network conditions, permissions, background limitations, and GPS error can delay, interrupt, or misstate a location.
A group password restricts joining but cannot prevent a recipient from taking screenshots, forwarding, copying, or otherwise retaining location information. The Service is not an emergency alert or personal-safety guarantee.
5. User content and data files
You retain any lawful rights in record names, point names, notes, photos, videos, tracks, imported files, and other content you create. You grant us a limited permission to process this content only as necessary to provide, maintain, and protect the relevant feature. This permission does not allow us to use your content for advertising or unrelated commercial purposes.
You must have the right to import, record, share, or export the content. Do not upload or distribute illegal, infringing, privacy-invasive, malicious, or unsafe material. Once an export leaves the App, its destination, recipients, and third-party processing are your responsibility.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Use the Service for illegal activity, harassment, stalking, fraud, or harm to another person or property.
- Bypass group authorization, access controls, or security measures.
- Disrupt a server, scrape data in bulk, send traffic beyond ordinary use, or distribute malicious code.
- Reverse engineer the App except where the law expressly permits it, or remove rights notices.
- Present the App’s estimates as statutory, certified, or professional measurement results.
If reasonable evidence indicates that an activity threatens the Service or another person’s rights, we may restrict the relevant service as permitted by law and retain necessary records to investigate and meet legal obligations.
7. Permissions, networks, and third-party services
You decide through iOS Settings whether to grant location, camera, Photos, local-network, or sensor access. Denying an optional permission does not block unrelated features, but a feature that depends on that permission will be unavailable.
The App uses iOS, MapKit, CloudKit, iCloud, the Photos picker, and the system share sheet provided by Apple. If you open or share content with a third-party map, messaging, cloud-storage, or other app, that service’s terms and privacy rules also apply. Apple provides the App Store distribution platform and is not the operator of the Service under these Terms or responsible for our maintenance and support. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable law or App Store terms.
8. Intellectual property
Except for user content, open-source components, and third-party material, the software, interface, documentation, name, graphics, and related works are owned by us or their respective rights holders. Open-source components remain subject to their licenses, and third-party maps and system material remain the property of their respective owners.
9. Changes, interruption, and termination
We may update or discontinue part of the Service for product development, security, compliance, device or system compatibility, or server maintenance, and will use reasonable means to notify you of material changes. We do not guarantee that network features, including live sharing, will operate permanently, uninterrupted, or without error.
You may stop using the Service, delete local records, leave a group, and uninstall the App at any time. Uninstalling may not delete iCloud data, exported files, content in Photos, or server data still within its retention period. See the Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
We use reasonable care to provide the Service and protect data. To the extent allowed by applicable law, we are not responsible beyond legally required liability for indirect loss resulting from force majeure, device or system failure, network interruption, third-party services, user error, unauthorized sharing, or reliance on an auxiliary result for a professional decision.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence causing personal injury, or any liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude. These Terms do not reduce mandatory consumer rights.
11. Updates to these Terms
When the scope of the Service, data processing, or legal requirements materially changes, we will update the date and notify you through the App, website, release notes, or another reasonable method. Where renewed consent is required, we will obtain it before continuing the relevant processing.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by mandatory laws applicable in your location. The parties should first attempt to resolve a dispute in good faith. If that is unsuccessful, either party may seek relief before a court with jurisdiction or an authorized consumer-dispute body. This section does not prevent a consumer from pursuing a remedy available in the consumer’s place of residence.
13. Contact us
For questions about these Terms, technical support, or rights, use the App Support contact listed on the App Store product page or submit an issue through the project issue tracker. Do not include precise locations, group passwords, member tokens, photos, or other sensitive information in a public issue.
For personal-data requests, also see Contact Us in the Privacy Policy.
